NIU Student Center Is Now A Greyhound Bus Stop

NIU Today

Northern Illinois University students and surrounding community members now have another way to get to Chicago.

The NIU student center is a stop for a new Greyhound Connect bus line from Davenport, Iowa, to Chicago. It also stops in Rochelle, Dixon and Moline. The Naperville city council is recommending a stop at its Route 59 Metra train station.

Before the service started this week, NIU students and other residents could take either an NIUHuskie Bus shuttle service to the Elburn commuter train station or a cab to wherever they need to go.

Travel time to Chicago using the Huskie Bus and the Metra train would be about two and a half hours. A Greyhound Connect ride from DeKalb to Chicago will take about an hour and a half.

The Metra train from Elburn runs almost every hour around the clock. The Huskie Bus shuttle runs twice every Friday to Elburn and twice every Sunday back to DeKalb. The Greyhound bus service runs seven days a week and offers two round trips per day.

One-way bus tickets between DeKalb and Chicago are a couple of dollars less than a one-way fare involving the NIU shuttle and Metra.
