Northern Illinois Groups Gear Up For Fundraiser For Area Non-Profits

DCNP

May 4th is called “Give DeKalb County.”

Non-profit groups are signing up to be recipients of the 24-hour annual fundraiser when people can make donations. Last year, there were more than 2,000 contributors and nearly a half-million dollars raised.

Some participants include youth service organizations and animal shelters. Residents give donations online or in-person and are matched with a bonus pool.

Ben Bingle, with the DeKalb County Community Foundation, says there is strength in numbers when non-profits band together.

"The results are pretty grand," he says. "It can certainly help very small non-profit organizations, as well as those that are larger and more formal. I think there is, again, strength in that collaboration.”

Bingle says these groups give back to residents in different ways.

"While our museums in town may not be providing human services or therapeutic counseling, they do a tremendous job of educating the public, of holding youth-based programming," he says.

Interested groups must register with the DeKalb County Nonprofit Partnership by March 1st to get started.
