NSF Cancels Antarctic Research Trip

Oct 22, 2013

A multimillion-dollar Northern Illinois University research project in the Antarctic has been canceled. The National Science Foundation scrapped the project due to logistical delays caused by the recent government shutdown. According to NIU, Antarctic operations are logistically complex, and even though shutdown issues were resolved last week, NSF indicated there was no longer enough time and resources to prepare for January's field deployment.
