Online Tax Filing Now Open
It's income-tax filing season in Illinois. People once again have the option of filing online. A link to the service, “WebFile,” is on the Department of Revenue’s website.
Sue Hofer, the Department’s spokeswoman, says the free service makes paying taxes easier. Instead of filling in lines on a form, taxpayers will be asked questions that walk them through the process.
“The computer does the math for you, so you’re not transposing numbers, you’re not forgetting to carry the one. And when you get done with your return, you have nothing to do except wait about a week for your refund check to be directly deposited into your checking or savings account.” - Sue Hofer
Those who use WebFile can also receive their returns on a state-issued debit card. The state says 80 percent of Illinois taxpayers filed online last year.
