The American Academy of Pediatrics recommendsavoiding tablet use for children under age 2.

Experts say interactive apps can interfere with children’s story comprehension. Parents reading to their children with these apps tend to focus more on the interactive elements than the actual story.

Studies show excessive media use can lead to attention problems, school difficulties, sleep and eating disorders, and obesity. In addition, the Internet and cell phones can provide platforms for illicit and risky behaviors.

The AAP recommends parents create "screen-free" zones at home by making sure there are no televisions or computers in children's bedrooms and by turning off the T.V. during dinner.
