Peru set a sales record for retail in 2016.

The LaSalle News-Tribune reports Small Business Saturday and increased foot traffic to businesses on Fourth Street contributed to the nearly $600 million dollar sales record. Peru's Economic Development Director, Bob Vickrey, said sales may have been even stronger if it weren’t for unusual winter weather.

Local business owners said warmer temperatures led to stagnant sales on items such as shovels, salt, and winter clothing.
