Police: Dismembered Toddler Found In Lagoon Was Rockford Boy

Chicago police say the dismembered toddler found in a lagoon was 2-year-old Kyrian Knox of Rockford.

Spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the FBI informed Chicago police on Wednesday the remains found in the Garfield Park lagoon on Chicago's West Side were that of the boy. The family has been notified and a death investigation continues to determine why and how the boy was dismembered.

Guglielmi says Chicago police and the Rockford Police Department will coordinate their efforts to determine the reasons behind Kyrian's death.

In September, the head, hands and feet of an African-American child were discovered by park visitor. Detectives began culling missing person reports in their efforts to identify the victim.

Investigators went to Rockford to collect DNA from the mother of a boy who went missing there.
