Prophetstown Historical Society Still Rebuilding One Year After Fire

Two young brothers have pleaded guilty to starting the fire which destroyed a large portion of downtown Prophetstown last summer. Rebuilding is still underway for several displaced occupants, including the Prophetstown Historical Society.

Janet Goodell is president of the organization. She says the year has been filled with paperwork to take ownership of a new space in the downtown. That finally happened in May.

Goodell says a few items are back on display, but she expects an open house may still be months away. She says volunteers continue to work on organizing old photos, clothing, and other items from Prophetstown’s past.

Goodell says the Illinois State Military Museum in Springfield donated several large display cases to help showcase more of Prophetstown’s history.
