Quinn Nixes Cut To Free Museum Days

Illinois State Museum
/
state of Illinois

Governor Pat Quinn vetoed legislation that would cut the number of free days museums and aquariums are required to offer every year. The measure would reduce the number by half to 26:

"I think we should make these special places, these museums that are world renowned as available as possible." -Gov. Pat Quinn

The governor says limiting the number of free days would disproportionately limit access for lower income families.

Illinois Public Radio's Bill Wheelhouse contributed to this report.
