New statistics released by the Illinois State Board of Education show that more than half of Illinois' public school students are low-income.

51.5 percent of public school students were considered low-income during the 2013-2014 school year.

The Board also found that, for the first time, less than half of public school students were not white. 24.6 percent of those students were Hispanic or Latino.

The Board releases an annual report of public school information. The 2014 report will go live at the end of October.
