Review Board Keeps Byron Generating Station Assessment

Exelon Corporation

The Ogle County Board of Review recently heard appeals from attorneys for both Exelon and the Byron School District. Ogle County News reports the review board upheld the original assessment of just over $500,000,000 set last fall by the Supervisor of Assessments. Exelon officials claim the plant’s value should be half that amount.

ABOUT THE BYRON GENERATING STATION

Byron School Districtofficials think it should be much higher.

The appeal affects taxes payable this year.

Exelon paid more than $32 million in real estate taxes last year to nearly a dozen taxing bodies. The Byron School District received the largest share of that money.

Both Exelon and Byron school officials also appealed last year’s assessment. An Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board has not yet made its ruling on that dispute.
