Rockford Frank Lloyd Wright Home Now On National Register

Laurent House Opening Date Set

Good news came in twos today for Rockford's Laurent House, the only home Frank Lloyd Wright designed specifically for wheelchair accessibility. The house has been named to the National Register of Historic Places. And the Laurent House Foundation, the not-for-profit group that purchased the home earlier this year, has announced the date it will open as a museum -- June 8th, 2013, Wright's 146th birthday.

The National Register of Historic Places designation is granted by the U.S. Department of the Interior.  The Laurent House received Illinois Historic Preservation this summer approval and was forwarded on to the national level.

The Laurent House, with its Wright-designed furnishings, was purchased at auction in February by the community group Friends of Laurent House: they plan to turn the home that was occupied by original owners Ken and Phyllis Laurent up until this year into a museum. More details on opening events will be announced in the coming months.
