Rockford’s SwedishAmerican Hospital will not be affected by cuts announced by its parent network.
Madison-based UW Health announced Thursday that it will try to improve its balance sheet by $80 million over the next 18 months through cuts or added revenue.
The health system said it expected to cut at least 225 positions in its network as part of that effort. It said cuts would not be across the board, but targeted, and done in the least disruptive manner possible.
UW Health blamed the move on projected cash flow problems. It said one cause was an increase in Medicare and Medicaid patients, whose payments fall short of costs. It also cited steep increases in the price of drugs and medical supplies.
SwedishAmerican Hospital spokesperson Katryna Kirby tells WNIJ that it has been informed by UW Health’s CEO that the cuts will not affect the Rockford facility.
