Rockford Now Including Youth In Homelessness Statistics

City of Rockford

Rockford is expanding its homelessness surveys to include young people.

The Register-Star reports the new focus comes as the city achieved "functional zero" for veteran homelessness in 2015.  This means the number of veterans entering homelessness equals the number coming out.

The youth survey counts people 16-24 who have no permanent indoor shelter.  The 24-hour count started Monday at 2 and ends this afternoon.  Officials hope it can provide a baseline from which to measure progress in the coming years.
