WNIJ news – The head of Rockford Public Schools delivered a speech Thursday, that called attention to racial issues within the district. There was also a statement about a large fine from the state. WNIJ's Mike Moen reports on what officials in Springfield are saying about that claim:
NOTE: Rockford School District officials Colleen Cyrus and Mark Bonne say there was not a discrepancy in what Superintendent Sheffield said. After this report was posted, they told WNIJ news that the terminology depends on how one looks at the situation. The district received a citation requiring that specific funds had to be spent a certain way, which Superintendent Sheffield interpreted as a fine.
