Rockford Team Claims National Wheelchair Basketball Title

Rockford's youth wheelchair basketball team won its first national title over the weekend. According to a news release from the Rockford Park District, the Junior Chariots won the Junior Varsity Division of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association tournament Saturday in Kentucky. 

About the Team

The Junior Chariots basketball team is made up of eight members, ranging in age from 8 to 18.  The Jr. Chariots are coached by Justin South, along with Assistant Coach Dominique Walker. Paula Reiter, Rockford Park District Therapeutic Recreation Adapted Sports Coordinator serves as the General Manager.

Junior Chariots Championship Celebration

A celebration for the team will take place at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Midway Village Museum, 6799 Guilford Rd., Rockford. 

Jenna Dooley has spent her professional career in public radio. She is a graduate of Northern Illinois University and the Public Affairs Reporting Program at the University of Illinois - Springfield. She returned to Northern Public Radio in DeKalb after several years hosting Morning Edition at WUIS-FM in Springfield. She is a former "Newsfinder of the Year" from the Illinois Associated Press and recipient of NIU's Donald R. Grubb Journalism Alumni Award. She is an active member of the Illinois News Broadcasters Association and an adjunct instructor at NIU.
