Roscoe Village Board Approves Sales Tax Referendum, Rejects New Police Facility

The Roscoe Village Board put forward a 1% sales tax increase referendum.  The Rockford Register-Star reports this is the third time in three years residents would be asked to approve such a measure.  If approved, it would generate $1 million for street, sewer, and water service.

At the same meeting, however, the board narrowly rejected a proposal that would replace the current police headquarters with a $2.9 million facility.   The facility was initially built as a gas station, and has numerous structural issues, including a leaking roof and failing septic system.  The board was split, but President Dave Krienke broke the tie, saying the price was simply too high.

WNIJ's Chase Cavanaugh contributed to this report.
