TheIllinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board on Tuesday approved the merger between Mercy Health System and Rockford Health System. According to a news release, the merger is expected to create a combined multi-regional health system that will provide care in more than 40 northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin communities. The new health system begins operations on Jan. 1.
The Boards of Directors of the two organizations approved the creation of the new, yet unnamed health system on October 23. The new system operates five hospitals, employs more than 550 doctors, with approximately 7,500 employees and provides outpatient service in more than 80 centers of care.
