State Senator Karen McConnaughay Won't Run For Re-election

Republican State Senator Karen McConnaughay says she will not be seeking re-election in November.

Senator McConnaughay served as the Kane County Board Chairman before being elected to the state’s 33rd District in 2012. She says after more than 26 years in politics, it is time to step back and let someone else “take a shot” at solving problems in the district.  McConnaughay says, for now, she’ll focus on ethics reform.

“I have been openly critical of the culture and the process that is not open, transparent, and accountable to the people of Illinois," she said. "We’ve been making some strides, but I’m going to continue to focus, make that my priority focus for the rest of my term.”

The Kane County Republican Party Chairman says McConnaughay will probably resign before the end of her term, but neither he nor the Senator said who might run for the 33rd District seat.
