Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan released her office's list of the top ten consumer complaints of 2015 on Monday. Madigan's office says that, for the first time, the annual list includes "education-related complaints" made by student borrowers dealing with problems related to student loans, loan servicers and for-profit schools. Such complaints ranked seventh on the list.
Consumer debt -- which includes complaints about mortgage lending, collection agencies and payday loans -- and identity theft ranked first and second on the list for the eighth year in a row. Other categories making the list concerned telemarketing or TV/phone repair services, internet or mail-order sales, construction/home improvement, and used-vehicle sales.
There were more than 16,000 complaints associated with the entries on the list. In all, Madigan's office says it fielded more than 25,000 consumer complaints in 2015.
