SwedishAmerican Investing $130 Million into Downtown Hospital Campus

SwedishAmerican

SwedishAmerican announced Tuesday it was investing $130 million to erect a new building and renovate the existing hospital on its main campus at 1401 East State Street in Rockford.

The new facility, expected to be open by 2020, will serve women and children and include a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for newborns. Level III is the highest level category of care.   The ten-bed unit will be staffed by a multidisciplinary team of physicians from both SwedishAmerican and the University of Wisconsin’s American Family Children’s Hospital, along with additional specially-trained staff.

Hospital renovations will include adding 10 psychiatric beds and expansion of the emergency department, surgical area and catheterization labs.  In addition, all patient rooms in the hospital will be converted to private single-patient rooms.

Hospital officials says the additions and upgrades will allow the hospital to expand and improve its service to both specialized populations and the wider community.
