Northern Public Radio will dedicate the Emmons Memorial Visitor Center in memory of Tim Emmons this Thursday, June 19, at 5:30 p.m.
Northern Illinois University President, Doug Baker, will speak at the dedication. Other speakers will include Vice President of Outreach, Engagement and Regional Development, Anne Kaplan, and Northern Public Radio Director and General Manager, Staci Hoste.
A tour of the station will follow at 6:15 p.m.
Emmons served as Northern Public Radio’s program director from 1988 to 1992 and then as General Manager of the station from 1995 until his death in 2012. It was Emmons’ vision and leadership that transformed Northern Public Radio into a five-station network with two programming streams serving more than 100,000 listeners each week.
Emmons was widely respected among public radio professionals. In 2009, he received the Don Otto Awardfrom the Public Radio Program Directors association and Audience Research Associates. The award honors "public radio originals whose talents, smarts and humor have helped move the system forward over the course of their public radio careers.”
