A proposed expressway between northern Illinois and Indiana is getting mixed reviews from transportation groups. The Illiana expressway would connect I-55 in Will County to I-65 in Lake County, Indiana. Officials with the Illinois Department of Transportation say the Illiana will add jobs, decrease travel times and enhance safety for drivers. Critics worry the project will exceed the estimated $1 billion price tag.
Members of the Metropolitan Planning Council of Chicagoquestion whether the investment of public money will be worth the expected gains in jobs and development.
