Two Northern Illinois Flights Grounded By Bird Strikes

Two passenger jets made emergency landings in northern Illinois Thursday after facing bird strikes.

Allegiant says Flight 1671 from Chicago Rockford International Airport to Punta Gorda, Florida, hit a flock of geese in the afternoon.  This forced the pilot to shut down an engine and land back in Rockford.  All 177 passengers and the crew disembarked unscathed.

Meanwhile, Southwest Airlines says Flight 105 from Midway to Las Vegas struck a bird in the morning.  The flight safely returned to Chicago Midway International Airport, and 164 passengers arrived in Las Vegas on another aircraft that evening.
