The DeKalb County man whose body was found Wednesday in the Kishwaukee River died of a gunshot wound to the head. That's the word today from the DeKalb County Coroner.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department says the autopsy and investigation turned up no signs of a struggle or trauma. 23 year old Steven Schulz was reported missing earlier this week: his pickup was found near the Kishwaukee River in northern DeKalb County. A full autopsy report will be available in the near future, after lab results are returned.

A dive team called in from St. Charles found the gun police believe was used to shoot Schulz. The case is still being investigated by the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department, although Sheriff Roger Scott says there is no threat to public safety.

The DeKalb County Sheriff says parts of Annie Glidden Road will remain closed as officials continue their investigation into the death of Steven Schulz, 23.

Sheriff Roger Scott says an Illinois Conservation Police officer found Schulz's body at 1:08 P.M. Wednesday along the Kishwaukee River about a quarter mile west of Annie Glidden. Department of Natural Resources officials were conducting a survey on behalf of the Sheriff's Department.

According to Scott, the body was turned over to the DeKalb County Coroner for an autopsy scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Thursday.  The sheriff says he expects Glidden Road will remain closed until about 9:00 P.M. Wednesday night, and may be closed at times Thursday as police conduct their investigation.

The sheriff says his department is working with DeKalb Police and coroner Dennis Miller on the investigation.

Police suspended their search for a missing DeKalb County man Tuesday evening after spending much of the day searching the area where his abandoned pickup truck was found.

Steven Schulz, 23, was reported missing Monday. His truck was found near the Kishwaukee River along Annie Glidden Road north of Route 72. Chief Deputy Gary Dumdie of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s department says officers and search dogs didn’t find any promising leads in that area or in the river. Dumdie says the investigation will continue as warranted.
