UPS Will Move More Than 200 Jobs To Rockford

twitter.com/ups

UPS is adding about 240 new jobs at its Rockford air hub.

The new positions are part of a realignment by UPS, which will be shifting air operations out of Des Moines, Iowa.

Spokeswoman Christine Hand says the Rockford facility is well equipped to handle the expanded capacity, and the new jobs allow UPS to schedule an additional package sort during the day.  She also notes that Rockford has been a source of high-quality workers.

"They have a very good work ethic and are very reliable," she says, "so we know we can count on Rockford to support our needs as far as expanding the facility here."

The new jobs will be mostly part-time package handlers.

"Those part-time positions include benefits and tuition assistance,” Hand says, "and also the opportunity to be promoted from within the organization."

The Rockford facility is UPS’s second-largest air hub in terms of capacity, able to sort 121,000 packages per hour. By comparison, the air operations at Worldport, the company's global hub in Louisville, Kentucky, can handle up to 416,000 packages per hour.

The Rockford facility will start hiring in June.
