What Does 850 Pounds of Butter Look Like?

Illinois State Fair

The Illinois State Fair continues this week in Springfield. One of the annual traditions is the butter cow. This year's massive sculpture is crafted out of 850 pounds of unsalted butter. It was created by Sharon BuMann of Central Square, N.Y., and inspired by the fair's 2014 theme of "Making Memories."  The scene depicts a mother taking a photo of her young son, who is milking a cow.

The sculpture also includes butterflies, horse flies, a cat and gnomes.  It's housed in The Dairy Building on the fairgrounds.

The butter cow exhibit is a project of the Midwest Dairy Association and paid for by local farmer members.

There is a web cam of the exhibit. See what it looks likehere.
