WNIJ Archives: The LST-325 Sails Again

USS LST Ship Memorial

LST-325 in 2000 after it was painted.

Fifteen years ago, a group of retired American military veterans bought a dream: a decommissioned Land Ship, Tank that delivered men and equipment to European shores during World War Two. The LST-325 eventually ended up in Greece's Navy. The vets worked hard to make the ship sea-worthy and sailed it back to the U.S. in early 2001.

Now, the man who captained the LST on its final Atlantic crossing, Bob Jornlin, has written a book about their incredible adventure, "Bringing Back A Hero." You can hear his interview with WNIJ's Dan Klefstad as part of our Summer Book Series. We also thought this would be a great opportunity to dip into our archives and bring you two stories we aired while the LST-325 was making its return journey and shortly after it docked in Mobile, Alabama.
