WNIJ's Gas Price Monday: August 10, 2015

Carl Nelson/WNIJ

Gas pricescontinue to drop all around the state. In Rockford, the cost of a gallon of regular fell more than a nickel since last week, to $2.50.

The state average is $2.60 a gallon. That’s down about 3 and a half cents from last week and 95 cents cheaper than it was a year ago. Drivers are spending 30 cents less per gallon than they were just a month ago.

The cheapest gas in the state, on average, is in Decatur, where it’s at $2.17 per gallon of regular unleaded. That price has dropped by nearly 70 cents since last month.

Chicago has the state’s priciest gas, although it has dipped below the three dollar mark. That’s a drop of more than 80 cents since last year.

AAA predicts the price of gasoline will continue to fall throughout August. That’s because of cheaper crude oil and refinery issues that have been corrected.

The highest recorded average price of gasoline in Illinois was in May 2011, when it hit $4.31.
