Gas pricesdeclined since last week after rates rose as much as 50 cents per gallon due to an Indiana refinery shutting down for unplanned repairs.
A gallon of regular gas in the Rockford area costs $2.90. That’s seven cents less than a week ago.
The state average is $3.03 per gallon. That’s down about a dime from last week but about 50 cents cheaper than it was a year ago.
The cheapest gas in the state, on average, is in Quincy, where it’s at $2.51 per gallon of regular unleaded. That’s 40 cents less than last week.
Chicago prices are at $3.57 per gallon. That’s six cents less than a week ago.
The national average is $2.60. The state with the highest gas is California at $3.47 per gallon. South Carolina has the lowest at $2.11 per gallon.
