WNIJ's Gas Price Monday: January 18, 2016

For the most part, gas prices across the state are below $2 per gallon.

According to AAA, a gallon of regular gas in the Rockford area costs $1.81 on average. That’s six cents less than last week and about eight cents less than last year.

Chicago prices are at $2.22 per gallon. That's ten cents less than last week and about 14 cents less than a year ago.

The state average is $1.85 per gallon. That’s eleven cents less than last week and 19 cents cheaper than it was last year.

On average, the cheapest gas in the state is in Champaign-Urbana. It’s priced at $1.59 per gallon of regular unleaded gas, which is about 14 cents less than the cheapest gas in the state last week.

The national average is $1.89, which is seven cents less last week and about 17 cents less than last year.

The state with the highest gas price average is California at $2.76 per gallon, which is nine cents less than last week. Oklahoma has the lowest average price at $1.60 per gallon.
