Gas prices in the Rockford area remained relatively stagnant since last week, but the state average decreased by more than a nickel per gallon.
According to AAA, the average Rockford area gas price is currently $2.78 per gallon. That's 2 cents less than last week and about a dollar less than a year ago.
In Chicago, prices are currently at $3.40 per gallon. That's six cents less than last week but about the same as last month's rate. Current prices are about 75 cents less than prices from a year ago.
The average gas price for Illinois is $2.91 per gallon. That's seven cents less than last week, but it's about a less than a dollar lower than it was last year.
The national average price is $2.779 per gallon. That's two cents less than last week's national average but a dollar less than last year.
