The cost of gas is over $2 per gallon across the state.

According to AAA, a gallon of regular gas in the Rockford area costs $2.22 on average. That’s six cents more than last week, but about 24 cents less than last year.

Chicago prices are at $2.48 per gallon. That's five cents more than last week, but about 27 cents cheaper than a year ago.

The state average is $2.34 per gallon. That’s six cents more than last week, but 24 cents less than it was last year.

On average, the cheapest gas in the state is in Danville. It’s priced at $2.08 per gallon of regular unleaded gas, which is the same price as the cheapest gas in the state last week.

The national average is $2.25, which is three cents more than last week, but around seven cents less than last year.

The state with the highest gas price average is Hawaii at $2.84 per gallon, which is four cents more than last week. Texas has the lowest average price at $2 per gallon.
