A report by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network says many Illinois school districts might want to consider expanding their anti-bullying policies.

The survey of anti-bullying policies at school districts across the nation checked for specific protections for kids whose sexual orientation or gender expression could make them targets for teasing or harassment.

The nationwide survey found less than half of Illinois districts provide protection for gays and lesbians, and only 7 percent mention transgender students. 

Girl Scouts combat bullying in rock opera

Set in the halls of a fictional high school, I Am the Music: A Rock Operetta tackles the subject of cyber bullying, cliques and mean girls.

The production included 35 Girl Scouts from 23 cities around northern Illinois. Each girl auditioned and was chosen for the musical.  Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois is partnering with the  filmmakers at Comtech Corporation to generate a video that raises awareness of how to stop bullying.
