When Cheap Trick was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame earlier this month, 17 year old Bloomington High School junior Bridget Lantz was thrilled for her father Doug, a huge fan of the band since he was a teen. Doug pulled out a mitt full of Cheap Trick albums from his collection to play for Bridget. The two spent the better part of an hour swapping stories about the band and interpreting song lyrics.

It’s “Cheap Trick Day” in Illinois today. That’s not an April Fool’s joke.

Cheap Trick will be performing live their newest album “Bang, Zoom, Crazy…Hello” at the Metro in Chicago today.

On April 8th, Cheap Trick will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

State Senator Dave Syverson passed a law in 2007 to dedicate April 1st to the band with Rockford origins.

Cheap Trick has sold 21 million records and holds 40 gold and platinum record awards.

Sue Stephens Wins National Award

Jun 23, 2013

WNIJ's Sue Stephens has won first place in the nationwide Public Radio News Directors Inc. (PRNDI) Awards for Best Writing, presented Saturday night in Cleveland OH.

She won the award for her story "Rick's Picks: Cheap Trick guitarist's life on display in Rockford," a feature which aired during Morning Edition on August 13, 2012.

The story chronicled the Burpee Museum of Natural History exhibition of guitars and other memorabilia from the collection of Rick Nielsen, founder of the Rockford-based rock band Cheap Trick, and interviews with Nielsen and his son Miles.

A new exhibit opened at the Burpee Museum of Natural History in Rockford this weekend. And this time, it isn’t dinosaur bones attracting huge crowds: it’s an eccentric musician and the things he has collected during his half-century in rock.
