The La Salle-Peru Township High School board is considering a $10 million athletic campus on 39 acres on the north side of La Salle.

The initial proposal includes facilities for track and field, 10 tennis courts, a baseball field, two softball fields and two soccer fields, among other amenities.

Students across Illinois are making their way back to school in the coming weeks. Yesterday, Northern Illinois University’s incoming law students got a special welcome.

The Board has also approved placing a referendum on the November ballot. It would ask voters to allow the district to sell nearly $140-million in bonds to help fund the plan.

Gov. Pat Quinn has signed legislation requiring all college dorms and residence halls in Illinois to install sprinklers by 2013.  The measure toughens past legislation by instituting stricter penalties for colleges that don't comply. Certain extensions may be available through 2014.

Study points to rental and e-book offerings and more

A new study says the increasing availability of e-book and rental programs is allowing college students to spend less on textbooks.

The study by OnCampus Research, a division of the National Association of College Stores, says students report spending an estimated $655 annually on required course materials, down from $667 two years ago and $702 four years ago.
