A U.S. Senate panel this week advanced the nomination of Chicago’s next top prosecutor.
A Senate committee unanimously approved the nomination of Zachary Fardon to be U.S. Attorney for Chicago and northern Illinois.
Fardon is a partner at the Chicago office of Latham and Watkins.
His predecessor, Patrick Fitzgerald, left the position last year to go into private practice.
Fardon’s nomination came with the recommendation of both of Illinois’ U.S. Senators Mark Kirk, a Republican, and Dick Durbin, a Democrat.
