More than 50 Marengo homes were damaged, with about 10 rendered uninhabitable, due to a gas explosion on June 11.

The Daily Chronicle reports that a lab is testing appliances and piping from the exploded home to determine an exact cause. Marengo Fire Chief Bob Bradbury said this testing shows the explosion wasn’t caused by gas lines going into the house.

A company that operates a plant in northern Illinois is being ordered to provide safe drinking water to residents in the Margengo-area.
