Classical WNIU Holiday Specials

Throughout December and into the New Year, Classical WNIU provides the soundtrack to your holiday season. Each Sunday morning in December, Sunday Baroque's Suzanne Bona will play selections from a list of suggested recordings for holiday gift-giving for the classical music lover on your list. Listen for holiday favorites like the St. Olaf Christmas Festival, A Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols, and the ever popular New Year’s Day from Vienna. “The Christmas Revels: In Celebration of the Winter Solstice 2016” is an all-new, two-hour compilation of musical excerpts, plus a few short poetry and prose readings, selected from the live Christmas/Winter Solstice Revels stage productions that took place in last December in eight cities across the United States.

The Rochester, NY chamber choir Madrigalia, and their Artistic Director Cary Ratcliff, return to public radio for Christmas with Madrigalia 2016, a holiday concert that celebrates the excitement and joy of the holiday season.

This year Madrigalia is joined by jazz vocalist Cindy Miller for some beloved holiday favorites by Jule Styne, Vince Guaraldi and Steve Allen. Cindy Miller is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and has performed and recorded with flutist Hubert Laws and Chuck Mangione. She has made numerous appearances with the Gap Mangione Big Band.

Slavic Wonders is a stunning celebration of the season featuring some truly brilliant gems from the libraries and monasteries of Krakow, Prague, and Moscow. The Rose Ensemble of Minnesota has put together a program of dazzling, passionate music for Christmastime in the great variety and range for which they are known.

Hosted by Michael Barone, this is a live stereo music and spoken word broadcast from the chapel of King’s College in Cambridge, England.

The 30-voice King’s College Choir performs the legendary Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols service of Biblical readings and music. Listen Saturday, December 24th at 6pm on Classical WNIU, 90.5
