Belvidere, Il – One-room school houses can still be found in most states. Experts say scarce funding sometimes makes it difficult to maintain these historic structures. In one northern Illinois community, a volunteer effort is underway to recapture the charm of a country school. WNIJ's Mike Moen reports, the project involves a group of workers far removed from that era:
Change. In 2009, after Barack Obama had ridden the change-we-can-believe-in slogan to the White House, Time magazine ranked "change" as the nation's No. 1 buzzword. Change. To make something different; to alter, shift or switch; to transform.
DeKalb – This year the Baby Boomers started turning 65. Experts say older Boomers will require more health care. WNIJ's Dan Klefstad examines northern Illinois health systems to see how prepared they are for a large number of older patients.
DeKalb – How will aging Baby Boomers get around? Those who live in cities can use buses and light rail. But many rural Boomers will have a harder time keeping medical appointments or going to the grocery store. WNIJ's Dan Klefstad reports on the growing number of rural bus services in northern Illinois.
Carroll County - County Wide - School Sales Tax Implementation This measure seeks to implement a sales tax in the county set at a rate of 1 percent in order to benefit school facility needs. If this measure is approved, it would still need to be implemented by the Carroll County Board and they could choose to set the tax at or below the 1 percent mark. The money from this tax addition would be given to the schools based on their enrollment numbers. DeKalb County- Hinckley - Fire District Levy Implementation
