All five Illinois statewide referenda won voter approval Tuesday by significant margins.
A Constitutional amendment strengthening rights of crime victims was approved by more than 53 percentage points.
A second amendment, approved by nearly 45 percentage points, prohibits any law that disproportionately affects the right to register to vote or cast a ballot based on the voter’s race, color, ethnicity, status as a member of a language minority, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or income.
Three advisory questions also won approval.
By more than 25 percentage points, voters supported the idea of raising the minimum wage to $10 per hour, effective Jan. 1, 2015.
By a similar margin, voters agreed that health-care plans that offer prescription coverage should include coverage of prescription birth control.
By a slightly smaller margin – just over 21 percentage points -- voters favored imposing an extra 3 percent tax on income that exceeds $1 million, with the proceeds benefitting education.
