Northern Illinois county Health Outcomes rankings ranged from 1 to 73 out of 102 counties in the state in the Third Annual County Health Rankings released Tuesday.
Kendall County topped the Health Outcomes list, with Winnebago County at the area’s lowest ranking of 73. Also in the top 10 statewide are DuPage County in second, McHenry County in fifth, Kane County in eighth, and JoDaviess County in tenth place.
Researchers used five measures to assess the level of overall health or “health outcomes” by county, measuring length and quality of life.
In the Health Factors rankings, DuPage County placed first and Winnebago County ranked ninety-eighth. Top-ten counties include Kendall at fourth, McHenry at seventh, and JoDaviess at eighth.
The rankings also consider factors that affect people’s health within four categories: health behavior, clinical care, social and economic factors, and physical environment.
Of the 72 counties in Wisconsin, Green County ranked 20th in Health Outcomes and 12th in Health Factors; Rock County ranked 58th in Health Outcomes and 67th in Health Factors; and Walworth County ranked 38th in Health Outcomes and 26th in Health Factors.
The County Health Rankings rank the overall health of nearly every county in all 50 states, using a standard way to measure how healthy people are and how long they live. This year’s rankings include several new measures, such as how many fast food restaurants are in a county and levels of physical inactivity among residents. Graphs illustrating premature death trends over 10 years are new as well.
These rankings provide a snapshot of each county in Illinois and throughout the United States, with a color-coded map comparing each county’s overall health ranking.
