Authorities Continue Investigation Into Marengo Home Explosion

More than 50 Marengo homes were damaged, with about 10 rendered uninhabitable, due to a gas explosion on June 11.

The Daily Chronicle reports that a lab is testing appliances and piping from the exploded home to determine an exact cause. Marengo Fire Chief Bob Bradbury said this testing shows the explosion wasn’t caused by gas lines going into the house.

Since individual insurance companies examine affected properties, Bradbury doesn't have an exact damage estimate. However, he said he's heard figures of up to $25 million.

Since the explosion, Marengo Area Outreach Enterprises reports it has collected more than $60,000, along with household goods and clothing for affected families.
