Eleventh hour meeting can't save Rockford driver's facility

Rockford could get a new driver services facility to ease the impending closure of one on the city’s west side.

Today’s talks between Rockford-area officials andSecretary of State Jesse White were “productive,” according to State Senator Dave Syverson. He says the Secretary of State’s office is looking into offering driver services in an existing governmental facility on the west side, but more research has to come first.

The Secretary of State’s office surprised local officials by announcing it would close the Auburn Street facility by the end of the month and open a new one near I-39 and Baxter Road. That location was chosen to better serve trucks and other commercial drivers.
