More deer were harvested during this year’s firearm deer-hunting season in Illinois than last year. But that’s not the only number that rose from the previous season.
Officials from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources say conservation police officers issued more than 800 citations and 1,100 warnings statewide.
The IDNR says there were five hunting-related accidents reported this time around. That’s more than twice as many reported from last year’s firearm deer hunting season.
Four of those incidents involved a gun, and the investigation for one is still pending. The fifth incident involved a tree stand.
None of the reported incidents occurred in the WNIJ listening area; they occurred in Brown, Christian, Hancock, Macoupin and Pike counties.
