Former Dixon comptroller to appear in federal court Monday

Rita Crundwell is scheduled to make an appearance for her arraignment on wire fraud charges.

Crundwell is accused of stealing $53-million from the city over the past two decades. Crundwell remains free on a recognizance bond. Meanwhile, Dixon city officials are trying to figure why it took so long for someone to notice what was going on.

Mayor Jim Burke says they plan to launch an internal investigation. While he doesn't believe that anyone else was involved, Burke says they want to be certain that Crundwell wasn't getting help in the alleged scheme.  An outside party will be hired to assist with the probe.
