The Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association is holding an event at the Sycamore Public Library to generate religious discussion.
It's a national group with about 70 chapters, including Northwest Chicago.
The Association is hosting events in more than 60 towns across the U.S. to inform people of the Islamic religion and answer questions.
It also wants to address common myths and misunderstandings of the religion -- such as the status of women and their rights in Islam.
Iftekhar Ahmad is with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Assocation. He says the young men in his chapter are taught more than just about Islam.
“In my congregation, ‘you guys need to learn about Christianity; you need to learn about Judaism and Hinduism, because the people around us are all different,'" Ahmad said, "And so we know that we’re very open to other religions and speaking with people of other faiths to try to find common ground. So that’s a big push as well.”
The group does volunteer work, including feeding the homeless and collecting blood donations to honor 9/11 victims.
The exhibition is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday.
