Huskies Win MAC Championship in 2OT

NIU Today

Coach Dave Doeren to leave NIU for N.C. State

The NIU Huskies defeated No. 17 Kent State in a thriller Friday night at Ford Field in Detroit to claim NIU's second consecutive MAC championship. Fresh off the win, head football coach Dave Doeren announced he has accepted a job at N.C. State.  According to NIU Athletic Director Jeff Compher, Doeren's departure is effective immediately and he will not coach NIU in its bowl game.

According to NIU Today,  Doeren says he believes NIU is deserving of a shot at a BCS bowl berth:

“There are not many teams in the top 16 that can play as consistent as [we] have. There are no ups and downs, they win every game they’re supposed to win and they’ve won the big games. It’s a total three-phase football team.” -Dave Doeren

NIU quarterback Jordan Lynch ran for 160 yards on 36 carries with three touchdowns. During the game, he broke the NCAA FBS single season record for most rushing yards by a quarterback.
