DeKalb, IL – On January 24th, Beloit College's annual Marvin Weissberg Lecture was given by international jurist Richard Goldstone. A leading figure in guiding nations from conflict to legal and constitutional governments, Goldstone played a key role in South Africa's transition from apartheid to democracy, first as chair of a commission that paved the way for negotiations, and then as a member of South Africa's Constitutional Court, which helped bring the country's present democratic constitution into being. He was also the chief prosecutor for the International Criminal Tribunals investigating war crimes in former Yugoslavia and Rwanda. WNIJ's Guy Stephens spoke to Goldstone. The conversation began with the successful transition to democracy in South Africa.
