Jesse Jackson Jr. Returns Home To Serve Rest Of Sentence

Susan Walsh/AP
In this Aug. 14, 2013 file photo, former Illinois Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. and his wife, Sandra, arrive at federal court in Washington to learn their fates when a federal judge sentences the one-time power couple for misusing $750,000 in campaign money.

Former Illinois Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. is back home in Washington for the first time in almost two years.

Jackson will serve the remaining three months of his federal prison sentence at home, followed by three years of supervised release.

The former South Side congressman was sent to prison in 2013 for spending campaign money on lavish personal items. Jackson spent about a year-and-a-half in an Alabama federal prison, and another three months in a Baltimore halfway house.

Once his prison term is complete in September, his wife -- former Ald. Sandi Jackson -- will have 30 days to report for her own year-long sentence.

Ald. Jackson pleaded guilty to filing false tax returns in 2013, but the judge allowed the husband and wife to stagger their prison terms to care for their two children. The alderman was also ordered to pay 22 thousand dollars in restitution.

Her attorney did not respond to a request for comment.
